One Cookie. A Whole Lot of Heart.
Behind the Cookie:
It started with a cookie. But really, it started with my mom.
When I was a teenager, my mom would bring home a warm cookie from a local Portland shop every week. It was salty and sweet, and somehow something so simple became something I looked forward to every time. It was our thing.
After my mom passed away and the shop closed its doors, I found myself missing more than the cookie. I missed what it represented. That familiar taste brought me back to those ordinary moments with my mom that I didn't realize at the time would become some of my sweetest memories.
So I decided to recreate it. I tested more than 100 variations, trying to find the right balance of salty and sweet and, if I'm being honest, trying to find my way back to a feeling I thought I had lost, and eventually I found it.
Years later, the original Portland shop reopened. Of course, I waited in line to taste the cookie that had started all of this. When I finally took a bite, I realized something surprising.
It tasted nothing like mine. But the heart of it was still there. Salty and sweet.
That's exactly what The Hippie Cookie has become for me. It's a sweet homage to my mom: the sweetness of the memories I have with her and the saltiness of the pain of losing her.
I believe food can be so much more than food.
It can remind you of someone you love. It can turn an ordinary afternoon into a memory. It can be dropped off on a friend's doorstep, shared around a table, or eaten warm when you need a moment to exhale.
A cookie can't fix everything.
But sometimes something small can bring a little joy into someone's day. I know because that's exactly what a cookie once did for me. That's the heart behind The Hippie Cookie. Born from a memory, made here in Portland, and created to pass a little of that joy along.
A Cookie That Gives Back
My mom had a heart for serving others, and I want that part of her legacy to live here, too.
That's why a portion of the proceeds from every Hippie Cookie goes back into the communities and organizations I care deeply about serving.
